I'm dedicating the full year of 2020 to contribute towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s), to answer the question… What difference can one person make?
I'll be using open source information available to everyone to implement changes in both my personal and business life to be a living example of the SDG framework.
I’ll also be reaching out to my network and seeing if the SDG’s could bring any benefit to them in their life and work, whether they are private or government employees, business owners or entrepreneurs.
So What Are The SDG's
In 2015, 196 State Parties signed the Paris Agreement, adopting The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
At its core are 17 Sustainable Development Goals with 169 targets which focus on three main points
Holding the increase in the global average temperature to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels and to pursue efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels, recognising that this would significantly reduce the risks and impacts of climate change
Increasing the ability to adapt to the adverse impacts of climate change and foster climate resilience and low greenhouse gas emissions development, in a manner that does not threaten food production
Making finance flows consistent with a pathway towards low greenhouse gas emissions and climate-resilient development
"The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership. They recognise that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests” https://sustainabledevelopment.un.org/sdgs
